Diabetic Eye Health Management

The numbers are staggering: almost 21 million people in the United States are afflicted with diabetes, with nearly 6 million more undiagnosed. It is the leading cause of blindness in working-age individuals. It can also cause rapid eyeglass prescription changes, cataracts, and has been linked to glaucoma. Commonly, this disease is first detected during the dilated eye examination. Based upon the severity of the disease, diabetic visual complications can range from very mild to sight-threatening, and requires careful monitoring at the very minimum once per year. Our practice utilizes state of the art retinal imaging technology such as Optomap, and Zeiss OCT to track for progressive diabetic retinopathy. Every diabetic patient will leave with a report ready to hand to their primary care physician.  Should the need develop, we have longstanding relationships with many retinal specialists nearby.
